Yinnar midfielder Guy Cheffers last night won the Elder-Berwick medal for best and fairest in the Mid Gippsland Football League.

Cheffers received 18 votes for the season, leading Yallourn/Yallourn North forward Ricky Hearn by just one vote.

Hearn, who tied with David Walker in his club’s best and fairest, led for most of the night and was locked on 17 votes for the final few rounds.

Cheffers trailed with 16 votes going into the final round, but his performance against Morwell East was enough to earn him the two winning votes.

Newborough ruckman Anthony Magnuson received the most votes, but was ineligible, due to a one-week suspension midway through the season.

Cheffers’ teammate Paul Roberts won the medal last season.
